Future-proof V2X systems for highways, cities and communities

At least with the introduction of V2X communication in a volume model of a major German car manufacturer, this technology has arrived on the road in large numbers. But in this network with the goal of making traffic safer, more comfortable and more efficient, the traffic infrastructure also plays a crucial role. The so-called V2I or I2V messages (vehicle-to-infrastructure or infrastructure-to-vehicle) provide, for example, information on the intersection topology and the switching times of traffic signals for inner-city traffic flow optimization and are ideally suited for prioritizing switching times, e.g., for special operations (police, fire department) or public transport (bus, streetcar). On highway sections, they serve as a source of information on the one hand (speed limits, lane closures) or for warnings of dangerous spots (broken-down vehicle, accident, dangerous lane spots in case of icing / oil, etc.) on the other hand.


NORDSYS has been equipping pan-European C-ITS corridors with waveBEE® systems for years and is involved as a partner in key research and funding projects, including CROADS and CRGUN, with the aim of achieving pan-European harmonization of V2X messages on the infrastructure side.

In addition to the "classical" technical equipment with RSUs (Road Side Units) for sending and receiving V2X messages on the infrastructure side, NORDSYS offers a unique portfolio of simulation and analysis tools for the functional verification of the equipment and V2X functions both for research and development activities of the equipment manufacturers and during commissioning and maintenance by the equipment operator.


Use Case
Inner-city Road Side Unit should send vehicle messages (CAM) to the traffic management center to provide bases for traffic flow optimization by adjusting traffic signal switching times.

With waveBEE® V2X simulation systems, mass V2X messages from vehicles (CAM messages) can be simulated, generated and actually transmitted via the air interface without requiring a test fleet of V2X-equipped vehicles. Similarly, prioritization for public transport can also be tested simulatively (SSEM/SREM).

Use Case

When putting Road Side Units into operation, it should be ensured that the V2X messages sent out at the switching times of the traffic signal systems (SPATEM / MAPEM) correspond to the signals actually shown in the light image.


The waveBEE® analysis systems show the traffic system engineer live and directly on-site the switching cycle on V2X message level and enables an immediate check.

In the event of a fault, extensive recording options and the expert mode provide the traffic engineer or system developer in the laboratory with insight into all message details for fault analysis.

Use Case

As part of system maintenance (e.g. after an update), it should be ensured that the Road Side Unit informative V2X messages (IVIM) mounted on a highway gantry send out messages matching the electronic variable message signs, e.g. speed limits or overtaking bans.


With waveBEE® V2X visualization systems that can be upgraded in service vehicles, the correspondence of the variable sign system with the message content of the road side unit can be compared directly as the vehicle passes.
